Family and Community Services

The Aims of the Family & Community Service Team

The primary aim of the Family and Community Services team at St Edmund’s Nursery School and Children’s Centre is to provide a range of services to support families raising their children in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.

The Centre offers a range of activities some of which are targeted at particular groups e.g First Time Mums, others are designed to attract any parent who feels they may benefit from attending e.g Stay and Play. Services are planned and timetabled so that all the needs of a family can be met at any one time.

It is recognised that families may face periods when they need additional support in order to maintain a stable, secure and happy home for their children. These families may be identified by a colleague or our services may be requested by an external agency such as a Health Visitor or neighbouring Children’s Centre. Equally should a parent/carer feel that they need a little extra support they only need to speak to one of the team who will be happy to help.

The Family and Community Services team are responsible for planning, and in some cases delivering, the timetable of courses and events that we offer. If you have ideas about how we could improve our services to children and families please speak to us as we are always looking to improve what we do.

School security

We are fortunate at St Edmund’s to have had no real problems with security this year.

The safety of the children is of the utmost importance and we have procedures in place to ensure the children are safe at all times.

We would ask parents to help us by making sure the door is closed when they leave and by closing the gate.

Some parents park their cars on the yellow zig zag lines which is very dangerous. The police can issue fines to people who park on zig zig lines outside schools.

Community issues

We want the children to feel happy, safe and secure while they are with us.

Community

Contact with the community is included in our planning and aims. There is a program of visits and visitors, so that children have an increased awareness of their place in the community.

St. Edmund’s Nursery School takes port in an ‘Early Start’ project (funded by the Government’s Single Regeneration Budget), in which Outreach Workers work with bilingual families in the Manningham/Girlington area, through home visits and pre-nursery groups.

PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY

The staff at St. Edmund’s Nursery School build on the progress that children have already made at home in the first few years of life, recognising the role of parents and carers, as the first and continuing educators of their children.

There are many opportunities for parents to learn about the curriculum in the nursery and to share the achievements and the progress of their children with staff. This communication is seen as an important aspect of our work.
